"We want to open it up to the community and invite people to make a three-minute grassroots video, share who your local star is and why," Marketing Manager Gia said.
"It might be your school teacher, your rugby league coach or your mum, if someone has had a meaningful impact on your life, we want to hear about it.
"This competition is about celebrating the everyday things people do, coaches, volunteers, teachers, if someone is a star to you, nominate them.
"The videos don't need to be big flashy displays; entries will be judged based on their creativity, originality and merit."
Nominations will be accepted from previous locals and those from the Kempsey Macleay area. The competition closes October 14.
Two local stars in their own right, five-time Australian Dance champion, Soleil Szitas, and 11-year-old bull rider Levi Ward have put their support behind the initiative and nominated their own stars to be taken into consideration.
From the entries received, the Kempsey Central Team will select ten finalists, and then the final winner will be decided by a vote from the community.
The winning entry and their star will receive a Majestic Cinema annual pass, a $250 Kempsey Central Hamper, and a Hollywood style STAR plaque on a seat at the new Kempsey Cinema.
All finalists will be invited to attend the official opening night of the new Kempsey Cinema, where the winner will be announced. All nine runners up will receive five Majestic Cinema passes.
A free short film session is scheduled for Saturday, September 28, between 10 am and 2 pm at Kempsey Central for those who might not be technologically savvy.
"We are looking forward to hearing about all the unsung heroes that make Kempsey the great place that we call home," Gia said.
