Ms Simmons recently received a phone call from someone claiming to be working for the NBN and they informed the 74-year-old they were forced to disconnect her service.
After hearing rumours of changes to the NBN near where she lives, Ms Simmons at first believed what she was hearing.
But when the person on the other line told her to press one to talk to an engineer, Ms Simmons knew something was suss and decided to hang up the phone.
"I called NBN in Sydney immediately and they told me that someone was trying to scam me," she said.
Ms Simmons received another call less than 24 hours later which followed a similar trend, except they told her she had an outstanding balance of $189 after ordering products on Ebay. Again, Ms Simmons hung up the phone and contacted eBay to discover the phone call was an attempted scam.
"They were really tricky and I am glad I have been made aware of these things so I knew not to fall for it," Ms Simmons said.
"I wanted people across the Macleay Valley to know these scams are happening and to not fall for it.
"I am worried there are people out there who could easily fall for something like this."
