The impact of the November bushfires is still being felt among our community and to that end, Kempsey Shire Council is inviting the women of our upriver communities such as Willawarrin, Bellbrook and surrounding areas, to a special Ladies Luncheon at the Willawarrin Showgrounds on Saturday March 21 from 11.30am to 3pm.
"Women in the Upper Macleay have experienced so much in the last few months and the recovery process will be ongoing for many months if not years," council's Recovery Coordinator, Jo McGoldrick said.
"It is important that we take a well-deserved, restorative break every now and again and it is hoped that this event will provide a few hours of enjoyment and connection for women directly affected by the fires and those who provided support."
Women attending are encouraged to dress up for the event and include a splash of pink, to represent new life and new dawns.
Tickets are $25 each and include lunch and two drinks, plus live music by Pam Hata followed by some inspiring words from guest speaker Anne Leadbeater OAM.
Anne was awarded an Order of Australia OAM for her community leadership in recovering from fires in the aftermath of the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria. She is a national expert on leading recovery for communities who have experienced trauma, particularly from bushfires.
The event is being supported by a large number of local businesses, including the following businesses as major sponsors; Salt & Wildflowers, Norco Rural Store Kempsey, DGI Australia, Macleay Valley Business Women's Network and Kempsey Stock & Land Pty Ltd.
Tickets for the event can be purchased from council's Customer Service Centre located at 22 Tozer Street, West Kempsey. For more information, contact council on 6566 3200.
