iCare will use the money to purchase two buses to transport the young attendees in and out of the youth event, held every Friday night in South Kempsey at My Church from 5.30 to 7.30. They will also buy a barbecue trailer to cook food for youth and other events.
iCare, which is a Kempsey-based community support group that provides much needed support to young and low-income families, will also use the grant to incorporate a storage area for the weekly distribution of emergency food and clothing.
iCare has been in operation for eight years and has previously relied heavily on donations. With the addition of a storage area, the group will be able to handle more donations.
iCare member Moira Hodgekiss said the funding will contribute to the group being able to help more people in the region.
"We will be able to serve and impact more youth and families with the ability to reach more people and more effectively and to see lives changed in a loving and consistent environment," Ms Hodgekiss said.
"This would not have been possible without the overwhelming support of Kempsey partnering with us in the vision for Kempsey.
"We would like to thank everyone so much for their support and for their votes.
"We are very excited and looking forward to our increased involvement in our community as we continue to serve youth and families through this extraordinary grant. We are so thankful for this opportunity to make a difference."
